Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964 was an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is also the first female vice-president and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. She was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for reforms to healthcare as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal and the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. National attention was gained for her sharp examination of Trump administration officials at Senate sessions. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
